I Stand Corrected

I guess that I have learned my lesson. I need to think before I speak....especially when choosing what to give up for Lent. (btw--I am semi new at this since I was born and raised Baptist).
Call me naive, ignorant, whatever, but I guess that I did not realize what all goes under the "fast food" umbrella.
Once deciding what to give up, I was super proud of myself. I usually frequent what I am calling "fast food establishments" at LEAST twice a week. So, this would be a big sacrifice for me. However, upon telling some of my co-workers that I was giving up fast food, here are some of the comments that I received:
1) "Didn't you just go to Starbucks this morning?"
2) "Wow! So no Little Caesars/Hungry Howies/Papa John's/Dominos/Subway/Firehouse/ etc...?!"

Now let me go on to explain MY definition of fast food establishments (which include all but are not limited to the following):
1) They have a drive-thru
2) There is no hand held menu available
3) Your order is premade before you ever actually order it and is waiting for you before you can get to the window
4) You have the option of super-sizing/mega sizing/etc. your "combo" meal
5) They often ask you if you would like fries with that
6) They have a dollar menu

So some of the places that I will be giving up for Lent include:
McDonalds, Sonic, Arby's, Dairy Queen, Milo's, Burger King, Wendy's, Zaxbys, Chick-Fil-A, etc.
**for extra measure I will even include Taco Bell (even though TB doesn't serve fries)
So please don't judge me for not thinking outside of the box. Or call me a hypocrite for going to treat myself to coffee or ordering my family a pizza....Again, I am semi-new to this (and I know that I did attend a Methodist and Catholic youth group during my middle/high school years, but I feel as though this is my first time REALLY understand what the Lenten period is all about).

  1. This completely makes sense! I wouldn't include pizza places or starbucks in the "fast food" category. Good for you! I was also raised Baptist, so the Lent thing is new to me as well. It was great to meet LL last night (I promise one of these days, I WILL learn her name :)

  3. good for you! i think what a person gives up for lent should be personal anyway, so i'm sorry that you have been getting negative comments. :(
