When my parents decided to name me, they chose to call me by my middle name....I guess that they would have used my middle for my first, but it just didn't flow....so they decided that they would just call me my middle name.
Well, this was all fine and dandy until 4th grade. At this point, we had to switch classes twice a day-one for reading, one for math. Well, my reading teacher ended up being the same as my main teacher, so I would just switch once a day for math.
I will never forget that math teacher for as long as I live--Ms. Smith.
You see, Ms. Smith didn't believe in calling people "nicknames", everyone was called their first name. So, instead of being called my middle name all year for that hour that I saw her each day, I was called my first name. I once wrote my middle name on my paper and she said that if I EVER did that again, she would throw it away and give me a zero.
Well, this did not sit well with my parents, or many others since several of my friends went by their middle name as well. They went up to the school and Ms. Smith said that she would only call us those names if our parents sent a letter to the state requesting a name change on our birth certificates for $25.
I VOWED from that point on that I would NEVER call my child by their middle name.
Well, little did I know that I was setting my child up for a life long of incorrect name calling when I decided to call her a double name. Even when I tell people her name, they never get it right.
So in honor of my daughter and I, I have added a new song to our list... I will probably only leave it on for a little while, since it isn't the nicest of songs.
I Did Get On The Plane
