The True Meaning

So often times it is easy to forget the true meaning of Christmas. We get wrapped up in holiday functions, buying gifts, wrapping gifts, forcing kids on Santa's lap (which tends to result in at least 1 screaming fit or frown), more buying gifts, cooking, cleaning, putting elves out to create chaos in our homes, decorating, etc. The devil often works his way into our lives as we curse the holiday traffic, the lines in Wal-Mart while trying to buy a pillow pet or fighting for that last Disco Dancing Mickey, and the time that we just don't seem to have enough of.
Amongst all of the chaos, God often throws a curve ball in order for you to slow down and think. Think about what the true meaning of Christmas is and think about what is overall important during the holiday season.
Its not the gift buying, decorating, tacky Christmas parties, eggnog, etc. Its the building of faith and remembering that God sent us His only Son to forever change Earth as we know it. Its remembering to honor Him, thank Him, and cling to Him. It's spending time with family and friends and giving to those in need, as Jesus often did. It's watching miracles of God truly take place as the doctor comes out to tell you that the 5 inch mass in your beloved grandmother's body is benign and that she made it through surgery and HE is granting you more time with her here on Earth. Its watching the power of prayer go out through emails, phone calls, Facebook, and in person as those you know also experience medical challenges (as well as other challenges) with their loved ones.
The least thing that we can do this holiday season is to sit back and enjoy this time that God has given us and for the Son that He brought to us in order to pave the way to Heaven. I hope that all will remember the true meaning of Christmas this year and sit back and enjoy it and be thankful for it. Watching all of these little miracles take place around us can not even amount to the miracle that occurred during this time ever so long ago.
